Cordless Brad Nailer Buyers Guide

by admin

Cordless Brad NailerA cordless brad nailer has many uses and applications. It can help you make quick work of small projects and make large projects more realistic for the DIYer. But unless you’ve got unlimited amounts of money to spend, you’ll need to think smart and do your homework before you decide which cordless brad nailer is right for you. So here’s a list of things you should look for, and things you should avoid when choosing a cordless brad nailer:

You should look for a cordless brad nailer with a battery that’s at least 12v, and 18v is even better. Basically, the more voltage, the more power you will have. Avoid anything that’s less than 12v – it probably won’t have the power to do the jobs you want it for.

Cordless Brad NailerLook for a cordless brad nailer that will be able to use a variety of nail sizes. One that works with a a range of 18 gauge nails should be sufficient for most home projects. Avoid cordless brad nailers that only work with a small amount of nail sizes. While it might be right for the job you’re working on right now, you’ll be annoyed and aggravated when it won’t work for your next project, which requires slightly different nails. Invest the time to look for a nailer that works with a variety of sizes now, and you’ll be rewarded when the next project comes along, and you’ve already got the equipment you need.

Another thing you should look for in a cordless brad nailer is the ability to fire a good quantity of nails on one battery charge. With a good battery, you should be able to fire at least 300 nails per charge. Avoid anything that fires less per charge, and spend the time to find one that fires even more – 500 is great on one charge. If you keep having to stop and recharge your battery, it will disrupt your project and make it take much longer to finish, not to mention frustrating you.

Cordless Brad NailerOne thing that’s nice to have on a cordless brad nailer is an indicator light, letting you know when you’re getting low on nails. While it’s not a requirement for a brad nailer to work well, it will keep you from dry firing and wasting battery strength.

The cordless brad nailer that I recommend, that does all this and more, is the Black & Decker FS1802BNB Firestorm 18-Volt 18-Gauge Cordless Brad Nailer. It’s got all the good things I mentioned plus even more.
